Triskel Arts Centre is seeking a PR & Marketing Manager.
The position will be based at our offices in Tobin St. in Cork, and is part – time: four days. We hope to grow the position to full-time over the next 18 months.
Triskel Arts Centre was founded in 1978, and has served as Cork’s Contemporary Arts Centre since then. Triskel has, over the years, developed its reputation as an eclectic cultural venue, and has featured the work of, or in some cases launched the careers of, several generations of artists, musicians, writers and composers. Triskel is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2018 #Triskel40
The Centre has always regularly programmed strands of visual arts, music, and cinema and is a key venue for the City’s major Arts Festivals including Folk, Jazz, Film, and Choral. Like many organisations in the Arts, the collapse of the economy had a profound impact. Triskel has had its funding by the Arts Council reduced by over 60% since 2007, and this position is not to date improving in any significant way. Arts Organisations are expected to be more self-reliant into the future as public funding, especially for the “high” arts goes into terminal decline.
Triskel has adapted and in effect reinvented itself, and in April 2011 re-opened to popular acclaim as a Multimedia Arts Centre, incorporating Christchurch and the old Triskel which houses other organisations in a “Hub”, including:
- Corcadorca – who manage the “Theatre Development Centre” in the small auditorium;
- The Cork Traveller Women’s Network – a Community Development Organisation
- The Anna Lindh Foundation, an international Cultural Foundation that promotes dialogue and collaboration between the Euromed countries.
- The “Make Up Bar” – a Training and Education Project in Theatrical Makeup. (Commercial tenant)
- Scrypt Café – which services events at Triskel and provides a daytime/evening Café service.
Christchurch is a restored historically significant Church that has been physically joined to the Arts Centre. Restored by City Council as a Cultural Venue for Triskel, Christchurch is an acclaimed live music venue with a beautiful natural acoustic and a state of the art sound system. The Church is also used to host exhibitions and from Sundays through Wednesdays is a Cinema showing a range of new releases, independent and Arthouse film. Events and activities in Christchurch are the primary activity of Triskel Arts Centre itself. Taken together however, all these elements operate so as to a create a busy and vibrant City Centre Arts venue that is open 7 days a week, and prides itself on treating artists well and being firmly audience focused.
Triskel is currently funded by The Arts Council, and Cork City Council. The remainder of its income is derived through box office and activities. For 2018 The Arts Council has awarded €190,000 and Cork City Council €53,000. Triskel also has partnerships with EUROPA CINEMAS and THE BRITISH COUNCIL. There is currently no Title Sponsor, though Triskel does enjoy a positive relationship with several corporate companies.
Triskel is a very dynamic organisation with vibrant Cinema, Visual Arts and Music Programmes. Proactive marketing and Public Relations are essential if Triskel is to create awareness of all these events and effectively interact and engage with audiences and potential customers. We are looking for someone who is excited at the prospect of using this energy and vibrancy to:
- Build Triskel’s profile through imaginative and interactive public relations
- develop our audiences with the effective marketing of the Centre and its activities and
- manage and develop key resources including databases, social media tools and so on.
The position is PR & Marketing Manager. Initially the position is part-time four days per week. Flexibility will be expected – Triskel is not a 9 to 5 operation. The Salary is circa €28K PA. The Candidate The ideal candidate will have a passion for the Arts and have a very good knowledge and understanding of the Arts in Ireland. The candidate should have excellent verbal, written and communication skills and significant working knowledge of the Print, Radio and Television Arts Media in Ireland, as well as Social Media. The ideal candidate will have excellent management skills, be able to lead a time and work as part of a Senior Management Team, understand modern box office and database tools and be able to organise and use them effectively. Reporting to the Artistic Director, The PR & Marketing Manager will also work closely with the Creative Team at Triskel and will have some administrative and secretarial support. Budgets though are impossibly tight, and the ideal candidate will be used to operating in that context!
