Harlow Art Trust in Harlow, Essex, owns one of the most significant collections of modern and contemporary public sculpture in Britain including works by Rodin, Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth among others, all of which are on permanent display in public spaces around the town. The Trust is now inviting submissions from practicing sculptors resident in the UK and Ireland for an open competition for the Lady Gibberd Sculpture Commission. The new work will commemorate the life and work of Lady Patricia Gibberd, the former chairperson of the Trust. It is not intended that this should be a portrait. Lady Gibberd was involved in numerous organisations particularly in the areas of the arts and health care and was instrumental in the assembly of the Trust’s collection.

The Trust is looking for an emerging sculptor, able to deliver a creative work of public sculpture that is permanent, durable and low in maintenance costs for a new public space being developed in Harlow.

The proposed commission is up to GBP35,000 depending on size, material and current prices of the successful applicant’s work. This sum should include design, fabrication and artist’s fee. Full brief is available on the website.
