Job Title: General Manager

Reporting to: The Board of Directors and working with the Artistic Director

Contract:39hrs per week. 12-month contract with an option to renew (3 months probationary period)

Salary: €32,000 pa

Commencement Date:Negotiable


The General Manager will have responsibility for developing and implementing a comprehensive participatory and community focused arts programme under the direction of the Artistic Director and the strategic development of the organisation as outlined by its Strategic Plan. In addition to this, the successful candidate will manage the day to day running of the organisation and its general operations, programmes and communications. This role requires a capable, determined person who can be flexible with their time and who appreciates the importance of our communities and the power of the arts.

Cork Community Art Link is a community and participative arts organisation which has been working in Cork City for 26 years. Our programmes focus on Street Spectacle, Public Art and Research based projects. We believe in the importance of our communities, the need for access to the arts for all and the power of creative processes to bring people together.

 Who we work with…

Cork Community Art Link works predominantly with marginalised groups from diverse backgrounds and geographical areas. The organisation also runs an annual disability programme and has strong links with the HSE and local health and support service providers. In addition to this we host European volunteer work placements, bringing individuals from around the world to Cork to develop their skills and areas of interest through our programme of activities. CCAL also hosts local work placements through CE Scheme, TUS and local educational institutions.

Operations and Administration

  • Manage the daily running of the CCAL office
  • Ensure all communications are answered
  • Ensure that all contracts, rent, utilities and insurance are up-to-date and appropriate for the needs of the company
  • Review all policies and ensure they are in line with legal requirements and recommended standards of Good Practice
  • Review project schedules and coordinate the diary
  • Ensure CCAL compliance with the Governance Code, Charities Regulatory Authority and CRO and any other authority to which it is answerable


  • Issue and ensure all contracts are up-to-date
  • Coordinate staff and volunteers
  • Oversee CCAL’s volunteer participation programme
  • Support staff with any issues or queries they may have within the workplace
  • Ensure CCAL is providing a safe working environment for its staff and volunteers

Financial Management

  • Manage financial records and accounts
  • Devise and manage annual and project budgets
  • Issue invoices and follow up on outstanding payments
  • Pay utility bills and vendor/service provider invoices
  • Coordinate efficient payment of staff
  • Report monthly to the board of directors on the financial status of the company
  • Submit completed accounts annually for Auditing
  • Submit Audited accounts annually to key stakeholders and online


  • In consultation with the Artistic Director, co-write all funding applications/proposals and ensure the timely submission of these proposals to the relevant bodies
  • Prepare and submit funding/project reports to funders for grants received
  • In consultation with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors source alternative potential funding and income streams and develop opportunities for fundraising
  • Oversee the rental of workspace room

Board of Directors

  • Report to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis at Board Meetings
  • Ensure the board are notified of any and all governance requirements
  • Review and submit company policies each year for ratification
  • Report on the financial situation of the company
  • Support the board and the Company Secretary
  • Ensure the company file is updated regularly


  • Attend conferences, meetings and events on behalf of CCAL as is necessary
  • Maintain regular communication with key stakeholders
  • Attend information days and Training courses as appropriate
  • Actively represent CCAL in the local community fostering new relationships and maintaining existing links
  • Ensure all network memberships are up-to-date

 Personal Specification: Essential

  • Experience in at least one of the following:

-Community and/or voluntary sector

-Arts sector

-Charity sector

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience at management level or equivalent in one of the above listed sectors
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Experience of budget and accounts management
  • A self-confident, pro-active and energetic team player capable of working to deadlines with minimum supervision
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Gmail, and social media platforms
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong experience working in diverse sectors of the community

 Personal Specification: Desirable but not compulsory

  • Broad experience in managing relationships with artists
  • Project and/or event management experience
  • Full clean driving license
