Galway International Arts Festival takes pride in helping to develop Ireland’s next generation of cultural producers and workers.
The GIAF Visual Arts Internship Programme (VAIP) was created to enhance visitors’ experience in the Festival Gallery as well as to provide interns with an intensive and rewarding experience in the visual arts. It is intended that VAIP serve as a pathway to improved career prospects in this and related fields.
VAIP interns act as the core group of invigilators in GIAF’s main Festival Gallery, greeting visitors, answering queries and taking responsibility for their experience at the venue. Interns must be fully available from 11-28 July. Participants are trained on the artist(s), artwork and visitor engagement techniques. Interns participate in professional development seminars, artist talks, special events such as the GIAF Visual Arts Launches and Wrap Party and other activities.
Optional intern activities include facilitating Children’s Craft Times, participating in Digital Media Workshops and presenting a Reflection Project at the end-of-Festival Reflection Session. After successful completion of the internship, interns will receive a physical certificate and a digital badge, courtesy of NUI Galway, for digital and CV use.
